Self circumcision techniques

Circumcision has been performed for tens of thousands of years outside of hospitals. And recently, a few devices have been developped to permit circumcisions to be performed outside of a surgical environment.

These devices were developped in countries where circumcision of young boys and teenagers is prevalent and not always performed in surgical settings. The process is such that a wound is not exposed, sutures not required and there no (or very little) bleeding.

While such techniques theoretically allow one to perform the operation himself at home, nobody would ever recommend that this be done without medical supervision as there are risks involved, just as there are in any other type of permanent body modification.

You should note that all the websites that describe these devices, and videos that show how they should be used make the hidden assumption that the foreskin is healthy and easily retractable. A phimotic foreskin may not allow the ring to be inserted. A dorsal slit may be necessary to allow insertion of the ring and this is beyond the scope of an operation which can be done outside of a surgial environment.

When not performed in a medical setting, anesthesia may be a challenge as over the counter products may not provide total numbing of the skin.
